Thailand – Sail the Andaman
Sea, Tour the Kingdom of Thailand
February 3 to
February 24,
2009
Join us for a fabulous 21
day sailing and sightseeing
vacation in Thailand. We will sail out of the Sunsail base in Phuket, Thailand,
with our cruising area covering Phuket and adjoining Islands in the Andaman Sea.
We’ll start our trip with a day to explore Phuket and
perhaps wander
down the streets of the bustling night market before we set sail. Once you depart Boat Lagoon, sailing north,
you enter the protected, stunning cruising area of Phang Nga
Bay,
designated a world heritage site,
where a striking gallery of giant limestone rocks rise out of emerald
waters. Anchor between Koh Hong and Koh
Yai and take a longtail boat to Koh Phing Kan,
the world famous James
Bond Island. The
unspoiled area of Krabi has some of the
most awe-inspiring scenery in the region.
Explore the town, then overnight at one of the many
stunning locations
available around the Koh Dam Group. Koh
Dam Khwan (known as “Chicken
Island”
because of its
shape) has a beautiful sandy spit that is only revealed at mid tide. On Phi Phi Le, visit Maya Bay,
a scenic sandy lagoon surrounded by limestone cliffs, excellent for
snorkeling
and swimming and made famous in the movie The Beach.
There is an abundance of coral and marine life and
underwater visibility
is outstanding. The Phi Phi islands were
voted one of the top ten most beautiful islands in the world.
We will
also take a “Kingdom
of Thailand” tour. This tour will take us to Bangkok
for a city and temples tour, including visits to three of Bangkok's most
unusual Buddhist temples: Wat
Traimit, Wat Po and Wat Benchamabophit. Visit
the colorful floating market of Damnoen Saduak. On this exciting tour,
you'll
witness boat-to-boat bartering as hundreds of agricultural vendors
float
side-by-side in their small rowing boats.
Enjoy an exciting tour of Bangkok's
Grand Palace,
Thailand's
finest and most
appealing example of an ancient Siamese court. Visit
Ayutthaya,
the historic capital of Siam. Here
you will view the giant bronze statues
at Wat Mongkol Borpitr. Stop at Wat Chai
Watthanaram, before continuing to Lopburi and the massive stone
sanctuary of
Prang Sam Yod. Visit Wat Maha Dhat
Phitsanulok followed by Sukhothai, one of Thailand's earliest and
most
significant historical settlements. Visit
the ancient fortified city of Chiang Saen,
situated on the banks of the Mekong River. By long-tailed boat, visit the famed Golden
Triangle where the borders of Thailand,
Laos and Myanmar (Burma) converge. From Ciang Rai, travel to the town of Mae
Sai, the northern-most point of Thailand on the border of Myanmar. Here you will board a long-tail boat and sail
the Kok River to the water shed at the Hilltribe Village of Pa Kaew. Tour Chiang Mai, the largest and foremost
cultural city in Northern Thailand. Visit the Maesa Elephant Training Camp where
elephants demonstrate their daily feats of skill and strength. There will also be some leisure time to do as
you please.
Our
boats are Sunsail monohull sailboats, in a range of
sizes, offering 3 or 4 private staterooms with a variety of cabin
layouts and
heads with showers. These boats are
fully equipped sailing vessels, and include such amenities as
electronic navigation
systems, auto pilots, electric anchor windlass, and CD player. There will be 6 or 8 people per boat
(depending on boat layout). In addition

more.

Lake Ontario Cruise
Join us this weekend for 3 days on the water of beautiful Lake Ontario. We will depart
from Yachting Operations Services in Henderson N.Y., at the eastern
end of the Lake, on Saturday 7/20
and return on Monday 7/24.
The Boats: C&C 32; C&C 35. Crew: I estimate that we would be
looking for approximately 9 people including skippers.
Cost: Based upon the number of folks who sign up I expect the cruising
cost to be approximately $390 + $100 refundable security deposit. The
final number might be somewhat more or less. The cost of food and
travel is not included in this figure. A 50% deposit will be required
when we book the cruise and reserve the boats.
Logistics: Henderson NY is approximately
335 miles from Monmouth County. The boats may be
checked out on Wednesday afternoon, 7/19, and anyone who wishes to may
sleep on their boat Friday night. I would expect we would try and
arrange car pools to drive to and from Henderson.
If you would like more information about Yachting Operations Services,
their WEB site is www. www.sailwithyos.com.
One skipper is needed. Trip is currently full but waiting
list is being formed.
