ZEPHYR check list

 

START THE ENGINE

1.           Open sea water valve, if closed.

2.           Check oil level on dipstick, should be at full mark.

3.           Disconnect 110 Volt shore power on dock first, then on the boat.

4.           Store power cable on boat.

5.           Turn battery switch to “1” or “2”.

6.           Do not turn battery switch while engine is running.

7.           Open hatches for ventilation and turn on blower.

8.           Transmission lever in neutral, throttle at 1/3 position.

9.           Turn key to the right to energize fuel pump.

10.       Turn key all the way to the right, hold key for 30-60 seconds for glow plug.

11.       Press start no longer than 10 sec.; pause 10 sec. and repeat.

12.       Release start button and key.

13.       Check oil light; it should go out. Ammeter should indicate charge.

14.       Check at transom if cooling water is coming out of exhaust pipe.

15.       If oil pressure light does not go out or no water comes out stop engine.

16.       Turn off blower.

17.       Run engine for 5 to 10 minutes in idle to make sure system remains normal.

18.       Operating temperature is 165 F to 190 F.

19.       Reduce idle, pause in neutral for propeller to slow down.

20.       Boat still secured, shift transmission forward, neutral and reverse.

21.       Do not run engine higher then 2400 RPM.  Good cruising speed ~5.2 Knots.

 

STOPPING THE ENGINE

1.     Throttle in idle.

2.     Transmission in neutral.

3.     Let engine idle for ~2 minutes to cool down.

4.     Pull “T” handle for beep sound.

5.     Turn off key, to the left.

6.     Push “T” handle back.   

 

SHORE POWER

1.     Turn battery switch to “ALL”.

2.     Turn off all power switch accessories.

3.     Plug in cable on boat first, then on shore.

4.     Secure power cable.

5.     Check if light on battery charger comes on.

 

 

 

 

 

Things to know

 

1.                 Look at the boat how does it look?

a.      Tied up to the dock.

b.     Rigging, jib, halyards, sheets, fenders in place.

c.     Is it clean in and outside? (i.e., empty bottles)

d.     Check head for cleanliness.

e.      Use head only if necessary.

 

2.                 Do not smoke on the boat.

3.                 Do not stand on the forward hatch.

4.                 Do not hop on or off the boat.

5.                 Do not use stove.

6.                 Do not over steer, if you go in reverse, Ό turn is enough.

7.                 Do not untie bowlines on the boat side, stow in forward hatch with anchor.

8.                 If you loose the sail ties, they sell them at West Marine (Sail Gaskets).

9.                 Position of sea water valve

10.             Never open Thru-hull discharge valve. Starboard side under V-berth.

11.             Never turn on Macerator pump.

12.             If holding tank is full go to pump out station at the Marina.

13.             If you fill up water for holding tank, make sure you use water fill on port side.

14.             If you need Diesel fuel follow procedure.

15.             Info is under the stove with the keys.  Please keep manual below; do not loose it.

16.             Please use fenders and spring lines as discussed.

17.             Use bow spring line as you come in.  Put loop around cleat at end of dock and you will have your hands free to bring the stern in safely without running it into the dock.

18.             Prop walk pulls stern to port in reverse.

19.             Please read, understand and follow the write up.

20.             Please keep your eyes open for other boat traffic.

21.             I almost forgot, it is a sailboat, so do have fun.
