New Jersey Safe Boating Certificate is mandatory if you plan on operating a personal water craft (Jet Ski) in NJ. New Jersey Safe Boating Certificate is mandatory if you plan on operating a power driven vessel in NJ and you were born in 1979 or later, you must possess this boating safety certificate NOW. If you were born in 1969 or later, you must possess this boating safety certificate by June 1, 2006 If you were born in 1959 or later, you must possess this boating safety certificate by June 1, 2007. If you were born in 1949 or later, you must possess this boating safety certificate by June 1, 2008. And the final faze in requires ALL persons to have this safe boating certificate by June 1, 2009 Sailboats with auxiliary engines are power driven vessels! You must have this certification operate a power vessel in the State of New Jersey Bergen SEAS will be hosting one or two classes on-site to ensure that all members are certified within the required time period.

I don't think that these guys took the class, but they're going to! New Jersey now requires all operators of powered vessels operating in non-tidal waters to complete an approved boating safety course. The requirements are still pretty vague, and confusing (click here to be really confused). I've got a call in to the NJSP Marine Division, as well as an e-mail request for clarification. I'll post the information when I receive it. In the meantime, I've provided a bit of information for you below. A boat license is a separate document from a boat safety certificate and is
required on non-tidal water (water where the tide does not change) operation. The
boat license is not a replacement for a boat safety certificate, it is an
additional requirement. To obtain a boat license, go to your nearest NJ
Division of Motor Vehicle Commission Facility. Persons must bring their NJ Boat
Safety Certificate with them to apply for a boat license if they are required to
