Basic Sailing Course

 

The Bergen Chapter of SEAS  Basic Sailing Courses are taught by Red Cross certified instructors and are intended to teach the basics of sailing to those who have never been on a sailboat as well as those with some experience.

The basic sailing course consists of 12 hours of classroom instruction in which you will learn

  • Sailing terms
  • Points of sail
  • Sail trim
  • Launching
  • Mooring
  • Rules of the road
  • Boating safety. 

The Parlour has graciously provided facilities for our classroom sessions!  The Parlour is  located at 250 West 86th Street, New York, NY 10024 (212.580.8923).  Please arrive with enough time to have dinner, and be on time for the start of class.  The Parlour will be open following class as well!

Classes will be from 7:00pm to 10:00pm on:

 Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008



 

16 hours of actual sailing experience on the Monksville Reservoir in Ringwood, N.J. is also included.  Water Session dates can be on of the following options, and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis:

Water Session Choices 9:30am  - 4:00 pm
Option A 06/08/08 Sunday 6 slots
06/22/08 Sunday 6 slots
Option B 06/07/08 Saturday 6 slots
06/14/08 Saturday 6 slots
Option C 07/12/08 Saturday 6 slots
07/19/08 Saturday 6 slots
Option D 08/09/08 Saturday 12 slots
08/16/08 Saturday 12 slots

 

All graduates receive the American Red Cross Basic Sailing Certificate, and will have gained the confidence, experience and knowledge to sail a boat.  

The cost is $195  which includes a textbook & use of SEAS boats.  Course fee does not include transportation to NJ but assistance will be provided by the Gotham City Sailing Association Meetup  Organizer, Tara, via carpools with a minimal fee to cover a Van rental service if needed.

You must be in good physical condition and able to swim to take the course.
