The Monmouth and Morris chapters offer an introduction
to Cruising Courses.
The Monmouth Chapter offers the Introduction to Cruising
Course. With this course you’ll become familiar with and learn how to: operate
all of the systems and equipment of a cruiser; prepare for a cruise, including
gear for personal comfort and safety as well as how to prepare the boat;
cruising seamanship, including crew assignments, sail handling and sail trim on
a cruiser; safety procedures including man overboard drills, using a VHF radio
to call for help, handling emergencies; basic piloting, including navigation,
plotting and rules of the road; leaving & returning to dock, rafting up,
anchoring and heaving to on a cruiser.
The Morris Chapter offers a First Mates Course, Piloting and Chart Reading,
Tides and Currents, as well as a course on Celestial Navigation for GPS Users,
all of which are excellent courses for anyone interested in cruising!
